Tree planting on Arbor day

 23/06/21

WALT:  Write an incredible Recount

Arbor day at Lake Ngatu.

Tuesday our whole school went to Lake Ngatu for Arbor Day.We started at 9:00am and we stopped planting at 12:00pm. We laid approximately 2000 plants like Harekeke, Manuka trees and Kanuka trees. I walked over to Lake Ngatu with my friends and It was a really cold day. I spotted rubbish everywhere I picked some of it up with my friends Nico,Hemi,Atama and Samson.

When we arrived at the Lake we sat down and listened to sir and Mr Matthews give instructions. Then the teachers picked our groups that we planted with. In my group I had my friend  Nico, Tame from Te Tinana and Nico’s step sister Sophia. Nico’s Nan Ann was the adult with us and was the one who carried and dug with the spaid.

Ann and the other adults dug the holes so we could plant. Me and Nico carried some of the plants back to Tame and Sophia and then we started planting. You have to squeeze the outside and then pull it out. If it is still stuck you can kneel on it and then it comes out. Then you have to squeeze on the plant to loosen the roots so it can spread. Put it in the hole put some soil in and then you're done.

We’ve finished planting and there was this truck with people making sausage sizzles. Me and Nico rushed and got into line but the line was so long we had to wait 30 minutes. Finally I got one and walked and sat down next to Ann. The first bite of the sausage sizzle tasted so good. Nico said to Ann to hold his sausage sizzle while he went to get another one. I saw Ann eat some of his  sausage sizzle. When Nico got back he said ”Did anyone eat some sausage?” Ann said “No!” but it was evident that she was not telling the truth!

We all packed up and started to walk back to school. To thank the teachers and adults we made a long walk- way so that the parent helpers could walk through the walk-way.  We chanted the parent helpers names, clapping until they had walked through. After that we walked back to school, to our classrooms.
