Ms The HAKA

 THE HAKA.

29/9/21

In the vast olden days the chief of Ngati toa Te Rauparaha was a brave and fierce warrior too. He was very strong and had an overflowing amount of enemies and Mana. So he went on a journey to find more warriors for his army to fight off his violent foes. The people of his village said that if he ever needed protection on his journey. Many of his enemies wanted to kill Te Rauparaha so he rushed fast. Soon he found out that he was being followed so he headed to lake Rotoaira.

When he arrived at lake rotoaira Chief Te Wharerangi told him to hide in their potato pit which was Noa because no one would suspect a great chief would be in such a common place like that. He started to descend into the noa before his enemies came. Guarding him was an all powerful wahine toa with mana so powerful to stop the guidance of a great Tohunga.

In the pitch blackness of the Noa Te Rauparaha whispered to himself “Will I die will i live will I die?”, over and over “will I live will I die will I live will I die”. Until all the footsteps of his enemies were goon. He Emerged from the pit and headed back to his Iwi, and told them a story of a lifetime. They started to chant his word and it started to turn into a haka. It was passed down to the next iwi the next the next and all the way to us.
