Paddle Boarding

 last Wednesday me and my class went to lake Ngatu and did paddle boarding.I went on the 2nd group that went also my Nan came to help to keep the rithoum we said HE HA HE HA he means forward and ha means back.We did this thing were we hold each other by the shoulders and push side to side with our feet and it wobbles the board and i almost feel off on the other board when they were doing that Kaiora feel off!!

 Almost everyday when we go swimming we have visitors that come and help us learn to be safe in the water and be safe.We did this thing we got a life jacket and sit up on the side and cross our arms and leaned back and explode into the water.Next we floated around and then we grabbed each other by the life jacket and leaned back and float did the safety huddle.

 Last term me and my class went on camp and we did all of these cool thank you letters to thank them.I thanked my dad and the youth camp owners.

Te Whaere tui camp 2020

 last term me and my class went on camp and we did all of these cool activities. The first one that I did was kayaking I liked it because me and my dad and my friend hunter kept on wobbling and we almost tipped over and we saw heeps of tinny little baby ducklings. Next I did the water slide It was so cool because the first time I went down they put a been bag at the bottom so ran of and on to the water slide blasted down and hit the been bag.once me and my dad went down and we went down and zoom past and then we hit the been bag and lounged in to the grass. This is a slide deck of what I did at camp.

Mad About Science

 We are learning to predict and explain what is happening during our science experiments

On Friday me and my class did these really cool science activities the one that I did was the lava in the cup.The material that we used are some oil,water ,any type of cup (2 cups), food coloring and some salt. first you had to pour half a cup of water in to the cup and then you pour oil into the cup and then all of the oil floats up to the top.Next you add some yellow and red food coloring and then it creates red and yellow bubbles  then you wait for all of the bubbles to go all the way down, to bottom and then you get some salt and put it in a cup and the sprinkle some salt into the cup and then all of the water collapses and all of the bubbles go to the bottom and it looks like, its snowing inside of the cup it looked so cool. 

Sailing the Pacific

 We are learning about traditional sailing and navigation methods used by early Polynesian voyagers.

Raranga Matihiko Visit 2

We went to Raranga Matihiko in Waitangi again and it was so awesome and we did VR, Tinkercad, Sculpt gl. At Waitangi we made these cool pou on Sculpt gl on the tablets and created stars on Tinkercad. One of my stars on tinkercad was made of shoes and a pumpkin.I got some flippers and some hand it looked like flippers but with hands on top.

Our new Teacher Whaea Gee

Thank you Whaea Gee for teaching in our class and teaching us new things that some people didn't know. I really loved the drama that we did I liked it when we acted as teachers. She was a really cool and awesome teacher.

Kuaka

 We are learning to use visual language features to support our understanding of the ideas and information in the text.

What I found tricky was finding words in the book and try to find out what they mean. 

Raranga Matihiko

 On Thursday last week we went to Raranga Matihiko and we did VR,Tickercad,sculptgl,paint 3D and book creator. We went outside and walked and we saw this humongous tree stump that use to be a massive tree that was used to craft  the long waka called ngatokimatawhaorua. We saw this pou telling the story about Kupe and the wheke.

My Speech - Everyone should Recycle.

WALT present a persuasive speech

Overall ween I was doing my speech to the class I was feeling great and ready to do my speech to the class.I'm going to be better at my speech if i try to learn my speech with NO CUE CARDS!!what I did well was using expression.

Did you know that 3.8 million tons of rubbish gets into our ocean each week? Do you want to live next to a dump? Well I don’t want to. If you like fishing and if no one starts recycling there will be no more fish to catch as they will disappear because of all the rubbish in the ocean!

If  you love this earth you probably know that recycling is great and I’m here to tell you why everyone should recycle.If people don’t start recycling, turtles will die because they eat plastic bags that look like jelly fish. They get sick and die.our environment will be curved in trash if knowone starts recycling and all of our fish will die. 

I think everyone should recycle because only 30% of our of our rubbish is recycled and the other  70% of our rubbish finds its way into the ocean. Fish and seabirds will die if more people don’t recycle.

Plastic makes pollution on land and poses a threat to the plants and animals  including humans who care for the earth.Pollution is a threat to our because it fils our drain and makes gas in the air

 

 Some spots in the ocean have constellations of trash every where  and makes harder for sea life to live 

Plastic is bad for our environment because fills up our drains and sours and pollutes our oceans.Everything will became wasteland and our beaches will be filled of waves of trash.

 That’s why I ,think everyone should recycle and I hope you will to.

Keep NZ Beautiful

  On the 22 of September went to Lake Ngatu we went there with Te Kauru, Te Puawai  and D.O.C and planted trees and picked up some rubbish around Lake Ngatu and learnt to be kaitiakitaga. We planted Manuka and Hanuka and Kanuka trees and after that we went around Lake Ngatu and picked up rubbish. We did this adventurer thing ween we had to find a dragon,snowman and a pigwin monkey snake fantale.

Reading Response - MONSTERS School Journal May 2020

When I read this book I was amazed.some of the Monsters in this book were true in some of the world.My favourite was the kahui tipua. The  kahui tipua lives in Aotearoa and kahui tipua is a tribe of fierce giants.

Another one of my favourite monsters is the Oni. The Oni is a fierce giant they have horns and very sharp claws,and they carry heavy clubs called kanabo.

I enjoyed was finding the FANTASTIC interesting key words like species and invertebrates.the hard part was finding out what the word means. Covid 19 Writing

WALT explain what the rules are at Level 2 and what we think about it.

The rules of covid 19 are not cough over everyone and you need to cough or sneeze in your elbow.You have to social distance 1-2 metres apart.I think covid 19 is a big bummer because me and my mum and dad were going to go to rarotonga in 2019 and covid 19 hit the boarders closed and we went in to lock down, we had to stay home and stay there until its over.

Connected L2 2015 - Why do our muscles get tired?

WALT use our reading strategies to find information in the text. 

I have learnt that rowing, biking, running a long distance, walking a flight of stairs, dancing, gymnastics, swimming and laughing cause muscle fatigue. 

Ways to stop muscle fatigue is to drink lots of water and eat healthy food.

Matariki

We are learning all about Matariki.

I enjoyed doing the most was macing the manu tukutuku and designing it and putting anything on it. what was surprising was the fact that Pleiades is another word for Matariki. this is what I learnt about Matariki. Matariki is the Māori name for  a group of stars. The science name is the Pleiades and instead of ‘group’ they call it a star cluster. It signalled the start of the Māori New Year for some tribes. Maori people followed a lunar calendar. That means that the months were organised around the moon. Marama is the name for moon. That is why the calendar is called Maramataka.I want to learn how they came to the solar system and what their purpose is.
what I find interesting was that the science name is the Pleiades and instead of ‘group’ they call it a star cluster. enjoy my Matariki slide

 

Moment in Time - school gala

WALT use descriptive vocabulary to describe a moment in time.

What I fowd tricky is remembering everything that happend in 2017.What i did well was adding punctuation and good vocabulary. I can extend myself next time by adding more detail.

Puanga and Matariki

WALT find out what students at one school do to celebrate the Māori New Year. WALT to use the main ideas to summarise the text.   

Me and my reading group have been learning about Puanga. The most interesting thing I learnt was the Puanga or Orion's Belt I never new want Puanga was until I read this book.What surprised me ween I read this book was a history capsule I had no idea that you could bery some thing you love and forget it and dig it up and remember it all over again ween your older.

SJ L2 2018 - The Plastic Free Challenge

WALT find out some of the causes, effects, and solutions for plastic pollution

To get rid of plastic at school we could wrap everyone's sandwiches in lunch paper instead

of cling film. And replace shop-bought muesli bars with

Homemade ones.at home we could instead of using plastic bags we use rubber.have you seen a garbage Patch in the middle of the ocean?It’s a mass of floating rubbish in the Pacific Ocean.

Most of the rubbish is plastic that’s been thrown away

by humans.

images of dead or injured sea creatures. Some had

eaten the plastic. Others had become tangled in it.

Rounding and Compensating

WALT solve addition equations using the rounding and compensating strategy. 

Write at least 3 sentences explaining your learning to your readers. i.e What did I do well? What was tricky? How I can  extend myself next time?

We had to answer the equations with the strategy Rounding and Compensating it is a really efficient strategy.All you have to is +1 or +2 or +3 to the nearest tidy number.it was tricky to work out what the answer is.I can extend by being smarter in my maths. 

Bubble Memories

We have been creating a slide show of my Memories in my bubble.

We were learning what we were doing in each others bubble.I liked the part  ween we had to choose the pitchers for what we were doing in our bubbles.

First We had to plan in our red books to help us write what we did in our bubbles. Second we had to write and use our ideas from our plan into our writing. Third we had to type out the writing into a goggle doc.

What I did well was making my writing easy to see so people can read it clearly. What is found tricky was trying to remember what I did in lock down! but I got the hang of it. Next time I want to level my writing up by adding more detail.

DESCRIBE A MOMENT IN TIME - The Diver

WEEK 7 - WALT to hook our reader in with our first sentence.
WALT use descriptive vocabulary to describe a moment in time.

In the glittery ocean a fearless diver is searching for the lost city of Atlantic. is so misty and dark that the diver can't see the mountain of rocks that he's ramming into!! As he swim's across the razor sharp rocks he see's little cavern's with hungry crab's clawing at him. Then he sees an electric eel zooming through the water zapping everything it touches.

The Striped Invader

WALT find out some interesting facts and information about wasps.

First we found interesting and tricky words to increase our vocabulary.And we used our skimming and scanning skills to find five interesting facts about wasps.

Reflections: I will extend my blog post by adding more punctuation and detail. I did a great job at presenting my slide. The life cycle was tricky because you have to put the arrows in the right please and to search the right images for the wasps.

Cats are one of New Zealand’s most popular pets.  They provide company and comfort to many people, but they can also be killers.  They catch small animals, and birds and don’t care if the bird is a common sparrow or an endangered black robin. There are three kinds of cats; companion cats, stray cats and feral cats. People have thought of many other ways to help protect our native birds and animals from cats.   One idea is to put a  microchip which contains all the owner’s details in all cats.  This means that if someone finds a lost cat it can be returned home and will not become part of the stray cat population.  Other ideas are keeping cats indoors when possible; having neutered cats  to stop them having too many kittens; putting a collar and bell on every cat and making sure all cats are well-fed and cared for.

I think you need to take care of them or they will become stray. I still think my cat is a killer because he took in a rat and swallowed it and there was rat poop everywhere.

Kawa of Care Assembly 2020

WALT understand the kawa of care and write about our assembly experience.


Last week on Friday we had our class assembly the class assembly happened in the hall. We were by the back door and we waited for a couple of minutes and whaea deb turned on the music  and we walked in with the trolley walk.Me Edmon and Kaiora had to walk out the front door and came back through the back door my part was so funny so Zion Mihi and Koda were so excited to hop on there new  and fancy Chromebooks, then Sharleen  called them away they walk away moaning then whaea deb turned on the pink panther music Me ,Kaiora and Hori came creeping in to the hall and steeled the Chromebooks!! Next Zion,Koda and Mihi came back and said WHAT WHAT WHAT where are our chromebooks have any of yous seen them Zion said we better go look for them they all said. Then they leaved whaea Deb turn back on the pink panther music and me Hori and Kaiora came back in and then Hori said store your device carefully and Kaiora said don’t leave your chromebook at any time. Lastly I finshed it of by saying when you return it may no longer be there.

Sea Week 2020

WALT  use a website to find out  more information about the sea during Sea Week. The website we are  using is young ocean explorers website. 

I have been learning all kinds of stuff. Did you know that sunfish can lay 300.000.000 eggs and that dolphins can shut down half of there brain when they sleep. So when they run out of breath they can go back up to breathe.

WALT about the treaty of Waitangi we have been doing Kahoot's about the treaty of Waitangi. Did you know that 500 Maori chiefs signed the maori version of the Treaty of Waitangi and only 39 Maori  chiefs signed the English treaty.
